Financial literacy classes
I teach financial literacy classes ranging from 1.5 hours to 12 or more hours (the longer courses are taught over several days or weeks). The classes are interactive and are targeted for high school students, but they can be adjusted for students of other ages. The classes start with the big picture of capital markets: their history, purpose, and major players. Then there are more in-depth looks at different players and instruments, including stocks, bonds, pension funds, retirement savings, banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, hedge funds, and venture capital. I highlight the ways that students will likely interact with the captial markets in the years ahead, as borrowers, savers, and investors.
"Our students found Mark's workshop to be informative and helpful for future financial planning. Mark was
knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject, and he was able to explain complex topics clearly and provide
relatable examples. The Beacon graduates found the exercises challenging and beneficial. The use of visuals and
real-world examples made the material easier to understand and the workshop provided a better perspective on
debt and financial literacy. Mark is an exceptional educator."
